Extra help and hints with Babies and young Children

Tools Needed:

1- A white piece of paper, Standard size 8 1/2 x 11 inches or 210 x 297mm
1- Digital Camera with a flash (or any film camera)
2- Humans or a delay option on your camera

*To use a film camera use these same steps except Step 6, you can then mail your image*

STEP 1:

Take the piece of paper and fold it in half. The paper is used as a Ruler, Please write the dimensions on the paper :

STEP 2:

Find a good spot to take your photo. You should find a spot where there is nothing on the wall(ie. texture, pictures, wall hangings) A nice plain white wall is best.

STEP 3:

For men, clean shaven gives the best outline for your Pirolette. Your Pirolette will follow (as closely as possible) the profile of your lip or chin, not your mustache or beard.
Do not wear eyeglasses.
Remove any piercing that would appear in your profile unless you want them to show in your Pirolette.

Pull your hair back if it falls on your forehead.

STEP 4:

Stand 2 to 3 feet from the wall. Keep your face straight forward with the folded piece of paper held an inch from your nose. Keep the paper straight, bending or twisting it will distort your profile.

STEP 5:

Your photographer needs to have the camera positioned at the height of your face, centered on your nose (both up and down & side to side) and be square to your profile. She can direct you to adjust the paper to straight up and down or rotate your head so that just your profile is photographed. Keep the whole piece of paper in the photo. Take several photos so you can choose the clearest one to submit.

YOUR PICTURE SHOULD LOOK LIKE THIS:

The Perfect Picture!

This is just an EXAMPLE of where the paper should be placed in front of your face. Please do not take a picture of yourself this way :)

THIS IS THE WRONG WAY TO TAKE YOUR PICTURE:

The picture was taken too far to the left of her.

The angle the picture was taken is too extreme.

We can not see the top and bottom of the piece of paper.

STEP 6:

Upload your images to your computer and choose the image you want to submit. Save your image as a .jpeg file. Name your file something you will remember!!

BABIES AND YOUNG CHILDREN HINTS

This is almost a perfect picture. Note the way she is holding the paper. We can still see the outer edge and the Whole piece of paper is in the photo. This is very important. Also note the level of the camera. The person taking the picture is a little too high. You need to be at your child's level. Please use this as an example when taking a picture.

Very young children and babies can be very difficult to photograph at times. For babies, while they are sleeping may be the best time, but remember, you still need to be squarely in front of them to take the picture. If you have a child who likes to grab the paper, you may back the paper away up to 3-6 inches, BUT BE SURE TO KEEP THE PAPER THE SAME DISTANCE FROM THE CAMERA AS YOUR CHILD. The Pirolette will be within our margin of error which is up to 1.5mm's.

1. YOU MUST GET DOWN TO YOUR CHILD'S HEIGHT. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

It's difficult to remember to get down to the child's height when you are taking the picture. If you are standing above the child, then the Pirolette made from that photo may not show all the detail of your child's face.

2. CHILDREN AND BABIES WHO CAN’T HOLD THE PAPER THEMSELVES.

If your child is being a bit uncooperative you can try to take the photo when your child is asleep. Lay the paper in front of your baby's face while her face is turned to the side. Take the photo while you are directly over the face. You can also get a second person to hold the paper for your child .

2a. DO NOT HOLD THE PAPER CLOSER TO OR FARTHER FROM THE CAMERA THAN THE CHILD.

We use the paper to set the height of the profile, if the paper is closer to the camera then the profile will be much smaller than the actual size if it is farther away then the profile will be much larger than actual size

3. MAKE SURE THE COMPLETE HEIGHT OF THE PAPER IS IN THE PHOTO.

Please write the dimension of the paper on your folded paper as shown at the top of this page.

4. MOUTH CLOSED.

If at all possible!! We realize this may be one of the most difficult tasks to ask your child to do.....and maybe standing still! Please do the best you can. With babies, they have their mouths open a lot of the time. If this is something you don't mind, we don't either.
